The Compact (shorter version) is good for firefighters who usually crawl around more. It’s less likely to get caught on things while you maneuver around the scene.
The Don/Doff (longer version) is good for firefighters with bigger hands or who don’t necessarily need a shorter hook. The length makes it easier to don your gloves, which can make donning time even faster. It also comes with an added bonus of hands-free doffing when you’re done with your gloves.
Handy Hooks work with gloves with a rolled outer cuff. The sewn edge of the cuff allows the Hook to clip on securely. If your gloves don't have that rolled cuff and have cotton or nomex gauntlet extensions instead, you can roll those inside the glove until you reach the rolled cuff.
Our new Dog Ear Backplates mount effortlessly to almost all material without adapting your gear! Check out our How To Handy Hook page to find out more info.
They have a melting temp over 400F, they will have to be in that temp rang consistently for several minutes before they start to fail. Handy Hook was tested to NFPA 1970 standards revealing that they will stay mounted on your gear and only minimal drip will occur. Being mounted at your knee height means we confirmed your SCBA mask will fail prior to Handy Hook failing.
See my tutorial on using both hooks on the How To page.
